Good don't get attention!

I was listening to Kelly Rowland's music 'Stole' a few days ago, and a particular line in the verse caught my attention: 'good don't get attention'. In as much as I can relate with this, I don't completely agree with it. Let me start by saying that being good, can sometimes be associated with being ordinary and average; and for you to want more than this, to be noticed, you have to go a level of 'not being so good' to get the type of attention you want. We all know that people who are radical tend to get more attention than people who are simple.

Let me break it down this way; when in secondary school, the kids who are most popular, are the ones who break a few rules if not all; who are summoned to the Principals office, one to many times and a few other times who are the cutest kids, and know how to use this to their advantage. Back then, these were the kids you'll invariable want to associate with, just for a few minutes of popularity.

Moving on to the University level, the popular kids, are essentially the Rich kids who  throw the craziest and the  loudest  parties; the pretty girls who date the rich big boys or aristos; the cute guys who drive the most expensive cars around campus; and those who wear the latest designer clothes and make sure you now it. Now if you are not all or any of these, you're most likely ordinary. Even if you might not feel so. Even in social scenes, the more daring are the ones who get the most attention. Hence more emphasis placed on sexuality, nudity etc. This doesn't however mean that it's not OK to be good; it is actually. This also doesn't mean that to get attention, you have to be bad even though sometimes, society makes it feel as such. There is just so much emphasis on fun and excitement that people would go to extremes to be all these.

As a matter of fact, Good does actually get attention. How else would you explain the success of gospel artistes? If Good didn't get attention, there would be nothing or no one to celebrate.

It's actually more difficult to be good as it is easy to be bad, and just because Good doesn't get attention as quickly as being Bad, doesn't mean it wouldn't get attention eventually. The only easy thing about not being good is that there are no rules, no boundaries and it's fun all the way. However, I'll like to believe you can have fun, be radical, 'manage the rules', be exciting and still be good at the same time. It all the depends on the kind of attention you are looking for anyways.
