Chinua Achebe rejects 50 Cents $1 million offer.

Things Fall Apart is considered one of the most important books to come out of Africa. The book’s author, Chinua Achebe, is a respected novelist, poet, professor and critic. So when the producers of 50 cent’s film of the same name tried to pay the author $1 million to keep the name, naturally, Acebe refused.

When news first came out about the film Things Fall Apart, Achebe’s foundation contacted the producers to let them know they were violating his copyright. In an attempt to keep the title, the author was offered $1 million was offered to the author.

“…the legal reps of Chinua Achebe’s foundation unconditionally informed the producers that; “the novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before rapper 50 Cent was born), listed as the mostly read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even 1 Billion Dollars.”"

The film will be opening under the name All Things Fall Apart at the Urbanworld Film Festival, which will take place in New York from September 14-18, 2011.
I guess this one fell apart for 50.....
